The "Jiggy Fly" is another great modern pattern designed by Bob Popovics. Simple and effective, this fly fishes deeper in the water column, helping you garner more strikes, especially from gamefish that are reluctant to feed close to the surface. Having a variety of patterns available to cover all water depths is key, and this fly fills the need for a deeper fishing fly.

The Popovics' Jiggy Fly is tied by Umpqua Feather Merchants, and is approximately 5 inches long (12 cm). Due to the compact shape of the head, this fly sinks more quickly than the more traditional Clouser Minnow. This same compact weight at the head of the fly creates a distinct jigging action in the water on the retrieve, helping to trigger fish into striking. For even deeper presentations, let the fly sink after the cast, count to ten, then begin your retrieve. By changing the length of the count, you can allow the fly to sink to various depths in order to help you determine which levels fish are holding at.
