Pearly Popper, Mylar Popper... - SaltwaterFlies.com

Pearly Popper

Pearly Popper

The Pearly Popper is one of the very best choices for topwater fly fishing. Fish love the reflective finish and two-tone color pattern - stripers and blues, bonito and albies, jacks and cudas, snook and tarpon, dolphin and roosterfish, and just about any other fish that hit poppers will hammer the Pearly Popper. This fly is sometimes referred to as a "Mylar Popper". We are also offering a similar style, the "Mini Crystal Popper" shown below - this version features a shorter body, but also has a more cupped face for greater commotion.

Mini Crystal Popper

Fish these poppers in fast spurts when fish are visibly busting on top. When fishing the water for fish like stripers or snook, fish with a slower, more deliberate action. Stripers often respond best to a repetetive cadence that keeps the fly moving steadily. The #2 Pearly Popper is approximately 2 3/4 inches (7 cm) long - the #2/0 is approx. 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) long. Tied by Umpqua Feather Merchants.

The Pearly Popper and Crystal Popper flies are tied by slipping a length of 3XL Mylar Tubing over a foam popper body - please see our catalog pages for these and other tying materials.
