Saltwater Flies Mainpage | Chris Windram's Saltwater Fly Museum
One of the true classic patterns developed for fly fishing the New Enland
shoreline. This is an essential pattern for striped bass in the surf and along
rocky shorelines. No angler who fishes stripers from shore should be without a few snake flies
in the box - this type of pattern is responsible for many large fish caught from shore
each year. Similar patterns: see the Striper Slider Special

Tabory's Snake Fly is tied on Tiemco's 811s saltwater fly hook. The #1/0 fly is approximately 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm) in length...the #2 fly is approx. 3 3/4 inches long. Fly design by noted author and fly rodder Lou Tabory - tied by Umpqua Feather Merchants.
Fishing the Tabory's Snake Fly: Choose the light colored fly for clear water, the dark one for stained or turbulent water. Black is traditional for night fishing, but we have enjoyed truly excellent success with the white pattern at night as well. This Snake fly is excellent when fished slowly as a searching pattern along beaches and especially in rocky areas. This fly suspends above rocky and weedy bottoms to prevent snagging. A super slow retrieve is sometimes called for. When a strike is detected, set the hook firmly with a strip strike. This fly works magic at times and could easily produce the fish of a lifetime.
